When do we use Present Perfect:

  • When we did something in the past and it continued until the present

Example: I haven’t finished my homework yet.

Example: We haven’t heard from them since Monday.

  • When we did something and the effect can be seen now

Example: I have lost my passport. (I still can’t find my passport)

  • There is no clear time when it happened

Example: Have you ever eaten sushi?

Example: I have been to Japan several times.

He has been to Spain.  He went there sometime we don’t know but he is back now.

He has gone to Spain.  He went and he is still there.

He went to Spain (Past Simple)  He went there and we don’t know about him now.
